Friday Link Love 03/06

Mar 06 2009

Tis the season for colds! I found myself sick again this week, this time with a cold. Not the worse one I’ve suffered (that would have to be the Great Cold of 2007), but still sick enough to knock me out of commission for a few days. I know a lot of people who are/have been sick, so something is definitely going around.

This week’s highlight has definitely been seeing the Amazon Kindle app for the iPhone/iPod Touch. I now have 3 ebook reading apps on my iPhone (eReader, Stanza, and now Kindle). My preference at the moment is Stanza because it is relatively open to many ebook formats. Although I’m always willing to try the next new thing!

Not much else to say except that it is Friday. You know what that means! Have a happy and safe weekend!

Friday Link Love 2/20

Feb 20 2009

Things are finally back to normal. After having my computer crash, losing lots of data, not being able to repair crashed computer and then having to buy a new computer, I’m finally feeling like things are getting back to normal. For those of you who don’t know me: I don’t deal with change very well.

Nevertheless, Friday is here and the weekend is upon us. I’m looking forward to getting a lot of writing done, reading, and maybe catching a movie on Saturday. Hopefully all of you out there in internetland can have an equally enjoyable and relaxing weekend. Spoil yourself and spend time doing something you really love.

And as always, have a happy and safe weekend!

Friday Link Love 02/13

Feb 13 2009

Happy Friday the 13th! While this is supposed to be an unlucky day, I don’t see how that’s possible, given it’s Friday (there’s nothing ever bad about it being Friday).

This past week I found myself a little sick. On Monday I awoke with an extremely sore shoulder and upper back. On Wednesday I was feeling nauseous and lightheaded. Yesterday I was feeling better, but still not 100%. I’m still a little sore, but nothing a few extra strength Tylenol can’t fix.

To top off feeling under the weather, my Mac decided to crash on me Monday night. I’m pretty sure it’s the hard drive, something that is being replaced. But I’m still worried about my iTunes stuff, since it hadn’t been backed up in a while. Any advice regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated!

For many here in the U.S. this will be President’s Day Weekend (i.e. 3-day weekend), making today especially sweet. But what makes it even more sweet is that today is Friday Link Love day!!! So here are some links for your reading enjoyment that I found while scouring the internet.

As always, have a happy and safe weekend!

Friday Link Love 02/06

Feb 06 2009

I can’t believe it – the Chicago area is actually getting some warmer temperatures. Granted, during this time of the year warmer in Chicago means that the high might reach the 40s (which is considered frigid down in the lower states). But we’ll take what we can get!

Weather aside, I’m planning a pretty relaxing weekend. I do have to work, and have some stuff to do around the house, but I also hope to get some reading done. Hopefully all of you out there in internetworld can spend some time relaxing with the family too.

As always, have a safe and happy weekend!

Friday Link Love 01/30

Jan 30 2009

Last week the United States got a new president, and this week Illinois got a new governor. That’s right, former Gov. Rod Blagojevich was officially impeached by the state senate yesterday (Thursday). First time in state history! Now that Gov. Pat Quinn is our new fearless leader, I hope we can put this debacle aside and get the state cleaned up.

Politics aside, it has been a sad week in the literary world with the passing of John Updike. I’m still reading about his legacy all over the web, but I doubt we’ll know the scope of the impact he had for generations to come.

Now that the weekend is here, I’m going to try and get some reading done – my stack of books to read keeps getting bigger and bigger! I hope all of you out there in internetland can get some good reading done as well – especially if you live in an area with cold, snowy weather (perfect for reading).

And like always, have a safe and happy weekend!

Friday Link Love 01/23

Jan 23 2009

A lot has happened in the last week: Chicago got more snow, I wrote more blog posts, we have a new president…you know, the usual. Unfortunately I missed the big swearing-in moment for President Obama because I was at work. I did manage to catch the last few minutes of his speech, though. And I saw plenty of instant replays of Chief Justice John Roberts flubbing the presidential oath (of all people!).

Now that the excitement from the inauguration is dying down, it’s time to go back to business as usual. For me that means working, more blog posts, a lot more writing on a variety of projects and just trying to survive in this crazy world. Hopefully all of you out there in intertube-land are staying busy (and out of trouble) as well.

As always, have a happy and safe weekend!

Friday Link Love 01/16

Jan 16 2009

You know winter has officially hit the Chicago area when the high for the day struggles to hit 0. Add in the wind chill and you’re looking at -18! It’s so cold outside that my freezer feels like a balmy paradise in comparison (ouch! That was bad, I know – jokes aren’t my thing). Needless to say, when the temperature gets back up to around 30 next week, I’ll be walking around in shorts and a tank top.

Cold temperatures aside, it is Friday! And for many this weekend is a 3-day weekend because of Martin Luther King Day on Monday (for those residing in the US). And of course we all know that Tuesday is a big day as well because of the inauguration of President-elect Obama!

Have a happy and safe (and warm) weekend!

Friday Link Love 01/09

Jan 09 2009

Friday is here and so is the winter weather, at least in the Chicago area. I think when I checked the weather, it’s supposed to snow most of today and throughout the weekend. I love winter driving!

And Friday also means it’s time for this week’s installment of Friday Link Love. As I always do, I spent this past week scouring all corners of the intertubes for the most interesting reading I can find. So if you’re in Chicago and getting blasted by this winter weather, then it should be nice to stay at home with some good reading. Wherever you are, enjoy the links!

Jan 02 2009

Now that 2009 is here, we can finally get down to business and set some goals for this new year. One of my upcoming posts will be laying out my goals for Brad’s Reader in 2009. Some changes are small and have started to be implemented. Others goals are much larger and will take more time. Either way, 2009 will be a big year for Brad’s Reader and I hope you stick around to see these exciting changes unfold.

With that said, it’s Friday, and it’s also the first Friday Link Love installment of the new year. The holidays are officially over and most people go back to their regular lives. I’m actually happy about this because I tend to thrive on normalcy and routine – the holidays upset that delicate balance.

Many of you will be using this weekend to get ready to go back to work, school or whatever it is that you do. At the very least, try to cram some last minute relaxing and fun into the weekend to try and "ease" yourself back into the normal routines of life.
