Friday Link Love 10/9

Oct 09 2009

I wish there were more hours in the day. Seems like there is just too much that needs to get done and never enough time to do it. Between this blog, other writing projects, freelancing and working at my ‘regular’ job, my days are squeezed pretty tight. At least the weather in the Chicago area has been crummy so I’m not tempted to spend more time outside.

Another week has flown by and we are now well into October. Don’t forget to visit here on December 1 to kick off the ‘3 years of Brad’s Reader’ celebration. I promise you won’t be disappointed! I’m keeping my plans under tight wraps, so you’ll just have to wait until December 1 to find out what awaits you.

Until then, have a happy and safe weekend!

Friday Link Love 10/2

Oct 02 2009

I can’t believe it’s already October! Time seems to really fly. The leaves are starting to change color and the air is becoming more crisp. I also like how nights are becoming colder, makes it much easier to sleep. During the summer months I lay on top of the bed sweating (I know, too much information).

These last 3 months of 2009 will be busy here at Brad’s Reader. There will be the December surprise, but I also have some other goodies up my sleeve. I won’t say anything more, so you’ll just have to keep coming back to find out!

That’s it for now. I got some great stuff for you to read during the next two days. As always, have a safe and happy weekend.

Friday Link Love 9/25

Sep 25 2009

I can’t believe September is almost gone. Summer is behind us and we are heading full-steam into autumn. I love the fall because the leaves change colors, the crisp and cool air, the shorter days and it’s also nice to be able to sleep at night without sweating (I know, too much information). I’ll be honest though, my favorite seasons are spring and autumn. Summer is too hot and winter is too cold – at least here in the Chicago area. Spring and autumn is when real change happens and we can see it all around us.

Also, as we approach December, it will mark 3 years of Brad’s Reader! I started this blog as hobby to express my opinions about literature and writing, and since then, the blog has grown and evolved in ways I never imagined. But I’ll discuss that more once December is here.

In the meantime, it’s Friday, and you all know what that means. Have a happy and safe weekend!

Friday Link Love 9/18

Sep 18 2009

Friday is here! I don’t know about where you are, but in the Chicago area, it is a bright, sunny, crisp morning. I’m drinking enough coffee to keep myself wired for the rest of the day and my head is swimming with ideas. One of those ideas will be coming to fruition within the next week or two, and you’ll see it right here on Brad’s Reader. So stay tuned.

Today’s Link Love post features an eclectic mix of good reading from other websites and blogs. Take a break from your busy day, do some reading, and have a happy and safe weekend!

Friday Link Love 9/11 (Late Edition)

Sep 11 2009

This week’s installment of Friday Link Love is being posted a little later than I normally like. The biggest reason is that I spent half the day finishing up a large freelance writing project and the other half cleaning up the house for dinner guests. I also wanted to delay posting out of respect for 8 year anniversary of 9/11. I watched a little of the coverage and it brought back some horrible memories.

Probably the biggest news in Brad’s Reader world is that I participated in my first interview on Wednesday. You can read more about it on this previous post. I will admit that I was a little nervous but overall I felt good about doing the half hour show.

Tomorrow I’m off to a craft fair in Chicago, which is always a lot of fun. I like seeing all these indie crafters out there making a living without the drag of a 9-5 job. If I find anything/anyone interesting, especially chapbooks or other handmade books, I’ll be sure to feature them right here on Brad’s Reader.

It is Friday (at least for a few more hours) and I hope all of you have a happy and safe weekend!

Friday Link Love 9/4

Sep 04 2009

This week has really flown by. And now it’s Friday and we have a long weekend for the Labor Day Weekend (for everyone in the U.S.). The weather looks like it will be nice for those of us in the Chicago area. I have a pretty busy weekend ahead of me with one major writing project and a bunch of other little stuff I want to get done as well.

The following links were specially selected by yours truly for your reading pleasure. Enjoy.

And have a happy and safe weekend!

Friday Link Love 8/28

Aug 28 2009

Most of the excitement this week came from the announcement from Sony about their 3 new digital ebook readers, including one with wireless capabilities. I’ll also be looking forward to when Apple announces upgrades to their popular iPod Touch line in early September. I’m guessing at least more storage capacity, perhaps a camera, and even built-in GPS would be nice for the Touch.

Yeah, I’m definitely a geek when it comes to gadgets. If I do upgrade to a new Sony Reader, I’ll be sure to write a review here. That said, it’s Friday and for the past few days the Chicago area has been getting soaked by rain storms. I’m not complaining though because I love the rain and how it makes everything so fresh and clean. On the other hand, it would be nice to see the sun a little this weekend.

As always thanks for taking the time to read my little blog and have a happy and safe weekend!

Friday Link Love 8/21

Aug 21 2009

Another week is gone as we inch closer to the end of summer. I can’t believe how fast these last few months have gone. Before too long, we will be in the middle of the holidays (shudder). Let’s try not to think about that right now. It’s Friday and that’s all that matters.

Have a safe and happy weekend!

Link Love Leftovers

Aug 17 2009

I haven’t written a Link Love Leftovers post in a while. For those of you who don’t know, Link Love Leftovers are just like my Friday Link Love posts. Only difference is, I use links that are ‘leftover’ from the Friday posts.

The links are still great, but for one reason or another, they didn’t make it on Friday (usually because I already had a link from a particular blog or on a particular topic). Some of these links go back to July so they might be a little dated, but valuable nevertheless.

Enjoy!

Friday Link Love 8/14

Aug 14 2009

During these last few days I’ve been engaged in an experiment – I’ve given up caffeine. So far I’ve only noticed the headaches, which are easily treatable with a couple of Advil tablets. My energy remains about the same, except that now, I don’t experience the ‘crash’ that comes after drinking several cups of coffee. And my stomach has been noticeably calmer. It’ll be interesting to see the longer term effects of living caffeine free.

Experiments aside, probably the biggest news of the week is Sony adopting the ePub format for their ebooks. I hope others follow suit (ahem, Amazon). One of my fastest growing interests right now, however, is the use of digital publishing and the revival of the short story. There will be more on that to come!

Have a happy and safe weekend.
