Goodbye old Mac!
This past week has been a rather difficult one, to say the least. It started when my Powerbook G4 decided to suffer a catastrophic failure – the details of which you can read in this previous post. And the week reached its low point on Saturday February 14 (yes, on Valentine’s Day, but I wasn’t feeling the love) when it became clear that the computer was beyond my ability to repair it.
Here is the result of my efforts:

I know, the picture is hard to look at, especially for you fellow Apple fanboys out there. And yes, that is a hammer you see, and even a Dremel in the near upper left corner. Such barbaric tools were needed because Apple apparently has a penchant for using really tiny screws to put their computers together. Worse yet, is those really tiny screws are screwed in really tight.
On Saturday night the Mrs. and I took a trip down to the local Apple Store and I bought a new MacBook. It’s the most basic laptop Apple sells and is perfect for what I need it for. I took pictures as I unboxed it, which I’ll post later. For now, let’s have a moment of silence for a broken computer that served me well!
