Free Giveaway: The latest issue of Poets & Writers Magazine!

Feb 20 2009

This weekend I’ll be giving away a copy of the latest issue of Poets & Writers Magazine (aff link)! I have been a faithful subscriber to this magazine for a few years now and I love it. The magazine talks about literature, writing, publishing and a variety of other content that keeps me going.

Why the giveaway? For some reason I received 2 issues in my mail rather than one. Instead of letting the extra copy go to waste and throwing it out, I thought I’d give it away to one of my faithful readers!

This issue is chock full of great stuff: Including tips from editors at large (and small) publishing houses and how they decide what manuscripts get bought and which get thrown away. And the issue features a great piece about nerds in writing – why don’t we see dysfunctional writers anymore who can’t control their drinking.

How do I enter to win?

Simple, just leave a comment below with the title of the best book you read in the past year. I don’t care about genre, fiction/non-fiction, whatever. And then give a brief reason why it was your favorite book this past year. Keep it short. One sentence works great.

Are there rules?

I only ask you leave one comment only. Comment spam will not be tolerated (yes, I check). The winner I pick is final and there are no substitutions. Please leave a valid email address in the comment form so I can contact you, in case you win (note: not in the comment itself, rather, the form you fill out with your name, email and web url).

My only other rule is that you have to be here in the US. Postage is too expensive to send overseas. I apologize if this excludes you!

How is the winner picked?

I’m going to pick the winner at random. This means scrolling down the comments with my eyes shut and whatever comment I land on is the winner. Not very scientific, but it works!

What’s the deadline for this contest?

I’m giving you until 11:59pm (Central Standard Time) Sunday night February 22, 2009. After that, comments will be closed and a winner will be selected. The winner will be notified by email and I will ask for a mailing address. The magazine will be mailed to you the following day.

Is the above picture the actual magazine you are giving away?

Yes

Why is it such a crappy picture?

Because I’m a pretty crappy photographer!

That’s it! You have until 11:59pm (cst) to enter. So think of the best book you have read in the last year and let me know why.

UPDATE 2/23 – Comments are now closed. Thanks for all who participated!
