New to Brad’s Reader? Start here!
Welcome to Brad’s Reader! If you are reading this, then you are new to this blog. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to explore my little home on the internet. To help you out, I decided to put together this little "Welcome Guide" so your exploration is not in vain.
What is Brad’s Reader?
I started Brad’s Reader so I could write about literature, books, the publishing world, writing, and even a little philosophy. Lately, ebooks have really captured my attention and I am very interested in using new technology to distribute and consume literature.
This blog began in December 2006. Since then, the appearance has undergone a few cosmetic changes, but the essence of the blog remains the same.
Every so often I tread lightly in the world of politics. This is not a political blog. There are thousands of blogs dedicated just to politics for you to get your daily fix. However, there are some issues that cross-over from politics to literature and I feel it is necessary to write about them here.
How is Brad’s Reader organized?
Generally, like any other blog, Brad’s Reader is fairly straight forward in its organization. Posts are ordered sequentially by date, with the most recent post at the very top. You can also read posts by category. Here’s a run-down of the most popular categories:
Writing Tips: This appears to be the most popular category. I take little bits of wisdom I’ve picked up from my years of writing and try to write posts that will help you with your own writing.
Reading: This is a broad category that covers anything related to the joys of reading. You can also find a lot of ebook-related posts in this category as well.
Poetry: If you have a love affair with verse, then this category is for you! You’ll find posts in this category about poetry and poets. I always try to find something obscure to write about in the poetry category, so you’re not going to find endless analysis of the Shakespeare Sonnets here!
Writing: Not the same as the Writing Tips category. This is a more general category for writing that includes posts about writing contests, interesting ways to publish your novel (on Twitter, for example), and stories about different tools writers can use, plus a whole lot more!
Misc.: What blog would be complete without a miscellaneous category? This is my catch-all category for posts that just don’t fit anywhere else. Posts in this category include announcements I need to make and my ever-so-popular Friday Link Love feature (more on that below).
Special features on Brad’s Reader
One feature that I implemented around December 2007 is the weekly Friday Link Love. Each week I scour the internet to find the best reading from blogs and sometimes even mainstream media articles (but I try to stick to blogs). The links usually have something to do with literature, writing, reading, publishing (especially ebooks) in some way. But I also like to interject links dealing with science, philosophy, politics and anything else I think you will find an interesting read.
And if that’s not enough, I also have Link Love Leftovers, where I feature stuff that didn’t make it onto the Friday Link Love post. When visiting Brad’s Reader, you will not just be reading my own posts, but I’ll point you to other great content as well!
If you’re always looking for something more to read, then check out my Top Posts page. I try to keep updated links to my most popular posts in one convenient spot. Updates are going to become more frequent, so make sure you check back regularly.
Monthly Newsletter
Currently, the newsletter has been suspended. But it will be coming back soon! When the newsletter does make its triumphant return, I will be sure to post an announcement.
Don’t forget to visit Brad’s Book Basement!
If you’re looking for some good books to read, then be sure to visit Brad’s Book Basement! There, I make recommendations (comments about selected books included) and try to promote books that I think you will love as much as I did. I also list some good books about writing. So if you’re looking for something to read, need a few gift ideas (there’s even a cool electronics section), then this store is for you!
Thank you for visiting!
I realize there are a lot of blogs out there, so I’m honored and humbled that your spending time reading mine! The biggest compliment you can give me is to refer this blog to your friends and family. Also, please feel free to leave comments on any of my posts, I always love reader feedback. I hope you enjoy Brad’s Reader. Thanks for reading!
