I finally have an iPhone
I finally bought my iPhone last night. And so far, I love it! I’m still playing around with all the different features and putting it through its paces – but I think I have a new best friend (figuratively speaking, of course).
The only feature I’m really longing for, which the iPhone software doesn’t seem to support very well is the ability to read ebooks. Yes, there are various hacks that can install unauthorized software that (from what I have read) turn the iPhone into an ebook reader. However, I’m hesitant to use such hacks, as they void the phone’s warranty.
That’s not to say that the iPhone isn’t good for reading. The truth is, it works great for reading! The display is just the right size for a mobile reader and I love using my finger to scroll up and down. Also, going into "landscape" mode (turning the iPhone on its side) makes reading even easier.
My hope is that when Apple starts allowing third party applications in February of next year, that someone out there develops an application to read PDFs and other ebook formats. If that happens, then this one device will be a phone, iPod, web browser, pda and library, all wrapped up into one perfect package!
