New website makes book tours easier than ever!

Jul 28 2007

Once upon a time an aspiring author had to jump through hoops, fire, an army of dragons, and maybe even a few lava fields to get on the road to promote their new book. And even then there was no guarantee that anyone would show up. In fact,  it’s not all that uncommon for an author to hold a book signing and no one comes. Sad, isn’t it?

Thanks to the internet, which is once again proving itself as the "great equalizer", the infamous book tour is now becoming a little easier.

A new website, booktour.com, connects authors and readers alike. Authors can set up their own free page (yes, it’s all free) that promotes their upcoming signings, speaking engagements, and other public events. And readers can sign up to receive news about appearances their favorite authors will be making. But it’s much more than that. Any organization, whether it’s a local college or a public library, can set up author speaking engagements through the booktour website.

This type of grassroots connection between the author and reader is almost critical for the success of any author – and his/her book! If no one knows that your book is on the market, then how can they buy it?

During the pre-internet days, authors often relied on their publishers and/or publicists to set up book signings and any other events that would be beneficial to the writer. But it was always a challenge to let the reading public know about these events – after all, there are so many authors out there, that keeping track of them all is virtually impossible.

Thankfully, booktour.com has come along to change all that. Authors have one more tool at their disposal to not only make their lives a little easier, but also to take more control of their careers. Do you really think a large publishing house is going to through money into marketing you and your book? Not likely. Unless you’re a bestselling author, they’d rather save their marketing money for those authors that can sell millions of books.

So, check out booktour.com, set up a free account, and give it a test run. Let me know how it works! I’m always interested in hearing about your success stories!

Hey, I want to thank our good friends at the Paperback Writer blog for posting the 411 on this new website. Check them out at: booktour.com makes Book Tours pain free
