What is Brad’s Reader?

Mar 29 2007

In my previous post I laid out a brief summary of the function of this blog, without going into much detail. In this post, I’ll go into greater detail about the main "focus" of this blog.

First, my posts usually concentrate in one of four areas:

1) Writing tips (and other "writing" related topics)
2) Publishing (a very broad topic)
3) Literary news
4) Literature (another broad topic)

I try to stay focused on publishing news first, because this directly affects writers. Whether it’s something a traditional publisher has down (one of the big publishing houses), or a new development in self-publishing, I really try to stay on top of the industry because I think it’s at a turning point right now, where self-publishing and e-books are on the verge of really taking off!

Writing tips and other related topics speaks for itself. I try to keep these posts broad enough that they will appeal to a beginning writer, yet a veteran writer will find them usefull as well, even if it’s just a refresher.

Literary news is another important subject. This includes author news, award news, and just about everything else happening in the literary world. This might also include the large (and growing) gap between the number of books being written, and the number actually being published. Or even more dramatic, the number of poets out there and the dwindling market for poetry. A lot of my posts cross over between subjects (ie. literary and publishing news).

For the more "newsie" items, I usually publish a link to an article in a mainstream online publication where I first read about the story. I often like to quote what I think is the most important, or even most interesting, part of the story – at least for me. In the end, though, I leave it up to you, the reader, to decide for yourself where you stand on a certain issue.

In the short-term, I just want to get this blog up and running as smoothly as possible. I’ll probably transfer my posts from the http://bradsreader.blogspot.com blog sometime this weekend. Once the transfer is complete, I’ll start posting here on a regular basis. If I cannot get my older posts transferred over (I’m not a "technical" person), then I might just have to rely on links.

My posting frequency varies. My goal is always one post per day, but sometimes I miss a day or two, or I might post twice in the same day. So you’re just going to have to check back regularly to see if I have any surprises waiting.

As always, thanks for taking the time to read my blog. I hope you enjoy it!
